Errant Public Alert on 2020-05-21 in Ridgecrest Area
An errant earthquake alert was sent by the ShakeAlert earthquake early warning system to the public in the Ridgecrest area on May 21, 2020 at 14:09 UTC (2:09pm PDT). The alert occurred when misconfigured code being tested mistakenly published a simulated Ridgecrest event to the live alerting servers and the alert was distributed by the Wireless Emergency Alert system. A cancellation was sent and the test code was corrected.
